New Moons – General Meaning
The NEW MOON represents the beginning of our 29 day lunar month. During a New Moon, the moon is roughly sitting between the Earth & the Sun, hence the Sun is shining on the ‘dark side of the moon’, the side of the moon we never see. As a result, we cannot see the moon as the side that faces the Earth is not illuminated.
The Moon & the Sun emanate frequencies and these energy waves influence the tides, our bodies, our emotions & our consciousness. In addition, during a NEW MOON, both the Moon & Sun are in the same Zodiac sign… giving an exponential boost or concentration of the energy.
The SUN represents our ‘outer-world’, our identify, our personality, our ego. It represents how we ‘shine our light’ out into the world, the present moment, our yang or masculine archetype expression. The Sun offers us strength, courage and illuminated insight of the Soul.
The MOON represents our ‘inner world’, our hidden emotions, desires, our shadow-self, fears/worries and our dreams. It represents our feelings, our unconscious beliefs, the past and our yin or feminine goddess archetype. The Moon offers us the ability to feel, learn from the past and creatively unlock and express our essence.
During a NEW MOON, the side of the moon that remains invisible to us here on Earth is being illuminated by the Sun. Thus our own ‘invisible’ side, our inner feelings, emotions and desires are also being illuminated during a new moon. Our January NEW MOON falls in the Zodiac sign of CAPRICORN. The CAPRICORN New Moon is practical, hardworking and willing to put in the hard-yards to achieve goals. Just love the strong will of Capricorn’s tenacious nature and ‘can do’ attitude ! Many of my close friends are Capricorn… and I just love them !!!!!
When the Moon & Sun were in Sagittarius last month on our 18 December New Moon, the energy was more visionary and bringing our conscious connection with our ideals of what we wish to be/become… connecting with the feeling. This helped to anchor our feelings through the Galactic Alignment on the 18-22 December 2017… resonating the liquid crystal sound waves out into the Cosmos.
Now that our Sun has moved into Capricorn, it is about taking those visions and making them practical.. make a plan, set the goals, put your head down and do the work.. and make it real !
There are many stellar bodies also influencing our January New Moon… Venus is conjunct our Sun, and Pluto & Mercury and playing nearby in Capricorn too.
As I discussed in my article on Venus last year, Venus represents the Divine Feminine archetype, the embodiment of love, beauty, sensuality, passion & desire. Venus is often experienced as the great attractor – both how we attract things into our lives and our attractions to things in our lives. By things I am referring to relationships, resources, possessions, & money.
Venus under the influence of our Sun & Moon this New Moon is guiding us to focus our energies on what brings us joy, what makes our hearts sing. What practically can you incorporate in your life to bring more pleasure ? Maybe a weekly date night with your partner, give your lover a massage, light candles over dinner for romance or make time in your busy weekly schedule to play more! Capricorn is asking you to be practical – get out the diary and make it happen, you deserve it, no excuses be it time, money, resources etc…
Pluto is having a weak influence this New Moon calling for transformation & Mercury is whispering to you from the sidelines, encouraging you to schedule pleasure !

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s – 50th Anniversary
As I write this post today, it is the 50th Anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination. As we reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life, his service to something greater than him and his extraordinary ability to realise change through the power of the Heart, the feelings that arise within you as you tap into the essence of this remarkably visionary man is what this New Moon is all about.
If we are to bring about change on this planet, heart based change that weaves a culture of kindness, compassion & reverence for all life for generations to come… then we must be that change from the inside-out & walk the talk. Rather than using force, brutality attacking those that we feel are ‘wrong’ or creating factions through separation of opinion & shame… this New Moon is about fostering understanding, humbly walking in the shoes of another and being a ripple of change through our Hearts.
What if today, as we head into the New Moon, rather than be angry & hurl abuse at governments, politicians, corporations, bosses, family members etc that don’t appear to have the best interest of you/your community/world in their sights… maybe take a different approach. Maybe honour yourself enough to not denigrate others, but at the same time speak authentic truth from the Heart. Speak of your Love, your greater vision, your ‘I have a dream…’ and inspire others with your message. When you speak to peoples hearts magic happens… hearts open, visions unite and ripples of LOVE become LOVE tsunamis of change.
